What this sound level meter can and cannot do
A phone is not a certified class 1 or class 2 sound level meter. Its microphone measures poorly below 30 to 40 dB(A) (it hears its own hiss) and often saturates between 100 and 120 dB: the page says so. Without calibration, the error can reach several decibels.
Calibrate with a reference
Audio input and measurement microphone
Device names appear after you first allow the microphone.
The file supplied with a measurement microphone (miniDSP UMIK-1, Dayton EMM-6, calibrated Behringer ECM8000…): lines of “frequency gain_dB [phase]”. The correction is applied before the weightings (sound level meter) and to every band (acoustics). Keep the same gain on the sound card as during calibration.
