What the analyser measures
In bands, each band is a filter of the IEC 61260-1 standard (Butterworth, the standard's band edges) that meets the class 1 mask on the test bench; a sine in the middle of a band is read to within 0.2 dB. Low bands respond more slowly than high ones: their narrow bandwidth requires it. In FFT, each line reads the level of a pure tone (Hann window); a noise spreads over several lines. The level in dB SPL depends on the microphone's calibration: without it, only the differences between bands are reliable.
Microphone calibration
The same calibration as the sound level meter, for this input. With a calibrator: put it on the microphone, start the measurement, then press its value.
Audio input and measurement microphone
Device names appear after you first allow the microphone.
The file supplied with a measurement microphone (miniDSP UMIK-1, Dayton EMM-6, calibrated Behringer ECM8000…): lines of “frequency gain_dB [phase]”. The correction is applied before the weightings (sound level meter) and to every band (acoustics). Keep the same gain on the sound card as during calibration.
